The 2007 Global Health Security Initiative (GHSI) Ministerial Meeting week will be held at the NIH from Monday, 29 October through Friday, 2 November.
The Global Health Security Initiative (GHSI) is an informal, international partnership of like-minded countries to strengthen health preparedness and response globally to threats of biological, chemical, radio-nuclear terrorism (CBRN) and pandemic influenza.
This Initiative was launched in November 2001 by Canada, the European Commission, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Throughout the week there will be an increase in security measures for this very high-profile ministerial summit in and around NIH. A higher than normal traffic flow at Rockville Pike and Center Dr between 8-10 AM each day should be anticipated. This has obvious traffic repercussions for the surrounding area as well.
The GHSI members are:
- Ministers of Health from Canada, France, Germany, Italy and the UK
- Secretaries of Health from Japan, Mexico and the US
- The Health Commissioner of the European Union (EU)
- The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO)
