Bethesda police commander will speak at next MCA meeting

Montgomery County Police Commander Russell E. Hamill of the 2nd District is scheduled to be a guest speaker at the next Maplewood Citizens Association meeting on May 21st. Commander Hamill, who is a life-long Montomery County resident, assumed command of the 2nd district (Bethesda) last August. He will briefly address topics affecting Maplewood residents. More details to follow.

Bethesda Green

Bethesda Green is a newly-formed group with the goals of “reducing the environmental footprint of the area, attracting environmentally-conscious consumers, and promoting an environmental ethic.” They’re holding their kickoff meeting Wednesday, January 23rd from 3:30 to 5 PM at the Bethesda Theatre, 7719 Wisconsin Avenue.

Refreshments will be served and there will be a chance to ask questions and network with political, business and community leaders after a short presentation.

Walter Johnson mulch sale

mulchBack by popular demand! The Walter Johnson High School All School Booster Club is sponsoring its third Mulch Sale. Dark double-shredded hardwood mulch will be delivered to your home by student, parent, and school volunteers on Saturday, April 4 or Sunday, April 5, 2008. Orders must be placed by March 19, 2008.

The mulch will be sold in large 3 cu. ft. bags at a delivered price of $5.25 per bag, with a 5 bag minimum order. Delivery will be curbside at your address and you do not need to be home to accept your order. Please include payment — check or credit card –- with your order. Order forms found on the WJHS website.

Walter Johnson 4th annual used book sale

Walter Johnson High School will hold its 4th annual Used Book Sale on Saturday, March 8th from 9 AM to 2 PM in the WJHS Cafeteria.

Donate your gently used books now through February to support this popular fundraiser. Drop off boxed books in the WJHS Main Office weekdays during school hours; or leave them just outside the Main Office until 7 p.m.

Magazines, textbooks, encyclopedias, software, CDs, and other media are not accepted. Your donations are tax deductible, and tax receipts are available. Proceeds from the sale support all extracurricular activities at WJHS. Questions? Send email to Walter Johnson.
