A new parking plan starts tomorrow, January 2nd at the Bethesda Library:
Under the plan, library patrons using the parking lot will park in numbered spaces, then enter the space number at a kiosk inside the library. This will allow them to park free for two hours. Customers using the library for longer than two hours need only to re-enter the number of their space. There is no time limit on the number of hours library customers may park, as long as the space number is validated every two hours.
After the County Council voted to make parking free at all county libraries, the meters at the Bethesda Library were removed. This led to an influx of non-library users which resulted in a full lot most of the day. Hopefully the new plan will eliminate the freeloaders.

On the Planning Board’s agenda for January 17th is the approval of the final Purpose and Outreach Strategy Report Report, which would essentially be the beginning of the Purple Line Master Plan process. If approved, the Planning Board would also request the MTA provide a 90-day review period for the Purple Line Draft EIS.
The Board is scheduled to discuss the Purple Line sometime after 1 PM.

Montgomery County is collecting Christmas trees for recycling through February 1st, 2008. This website gives you plenty of information on how to recycle or dispose of Christmas trees.
Natural trees are shredded to make mulch, which is also available from the county at no charge.

Because of the recent snow, DPWT says it will be using dump trucks to haul the leaves away:
This week’s snow storm has created wet leaf piles that are more difficult and slower to collect using vacuum trucks. DPWT will target locations that historically have had a large volume of leaves. Areas that have received one vacuum leaf collection will still receive a second round even if their leaves are collected using the dump trucks.

Montgomery County has created a resource-filled website on BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) which is helpful in understanding the federally mandated move of Walter Reed to the Bethesda Naval Medical Center by 2011.
Please send your comments on the website, which the County created at the recommendation of the neighborhood representatives on the County BRAC Implementation Committee, to:
